Just so you know: Charmin credits are just as reliable as carbon credits, and can be purchased using my Paypal link at left. Credits are $1 per square (or $2 per square for extra-soft Charmin); I’m trusting you will use the honor system when you make your purchase. Now you can feel good when you flush your money down the toilet!

Carbon credits are, in principle, a fairly “conservative” idea. The goal is to internalize the externalities (costs NOT PAID by the producer but imposed on others- such as pollution) in order to reach the economically efficient result. Carbon credits do this by creating property rights in emissions.
Of course, valuing these costs is difficult, but if it can be done to some level of accuracy, the credits idea should work. but like any other kind of trade, there needs to be enforcement of the underlying rules. What I hear from the comments on NB was basically that the carbon credits system is bad, when in reality it is those who are cheating the system who are bad.

Probably not about the whole discussion but there is one with the bears and the Charmin. It’s gross to discuss wiping your rear on TV even if it is a bear!

I actually blogged about politics… and used primary research materials. You’re the only political observer I know, so please stop by and take a look.
